The Engman family

More comfortable heat and a saving in heating costs of approximately 20 percent

Lower cost and nicer warmth in Engman's villa

More comfortable heat and a saving in heating costs of around 20 percent. The Engman family has installed infrared heating panels in all rooms of the villa and sees only upsides in having converted from traditional heating.

Jenny Engman was at a housing fair five years ago and learned about infrared heating panels for the first time. Then she went home and googled it.

– I couldn't let go of this idea of infrared heating panels as heating. We tested a panel during the winter of 2017 and were satisfied. Then we bought panels for the entire house, which were installed in the fall of 2018, says Jenny Engman.

In 2020, a renovation of the villa began. At the same time, a 25 square meter extension was built. All panels were taken down, all electricity was rewired and completely new plumbing equipment was installed.

Infrared heating panels in all rooms

There are now 15 panels in different sizes in the house's 150 square meters. In the five bedrooms, the kitchen, the TV room, the hall, the laundry room and the bathroom. And the Engmans just love their place.

– We have constantly warm floors and less condensation on our windows during the cold months. Just standing under a panel is so nice. You can feel how it warms your head.

Great heat on all floors

In the Engman villa, all floors are laminate except in wet areas where there are rubber mats. The infrared heating panels do their job – all floors are comfortable to walk on.

– Previously, we had uneven heat. Now it's perfect, equally warm throughout the house. In addition, the panels make the indoor heat less sensitive to drafts. We can ventilate properly without losing the heat. It remains in the walls, furniture and floors, says Jenny Engman.

When the electricity was rewired in the house, all the infrared heating panels were taken down. An electrician was hired.

– He probably didn't think it was that effective, thought traditional technology would be better. Overall, few people are aware of the panels and understand how good they are. I'm trying to get neighbors in the area to invest in infrared heating panels, says Jenny.

Electricity consumption went down thanks to the panels.

When the family switched from water-based heating and radiators to just infrared heating panels, the heating cost dropped.

– I run my excel sheet and keep track of the costs. The panels meant a saving of 10-20 percent. It will be interesting to see the annual consumption after our extension. It seems that we will be at about the same number of kilowatt hours now with larger houses and panels as with smaller houses and water-based heating, says Jenny Engman.

Another advantage she sees with the panels is how quickly the heat can be adjusted with a wireless thermostat.

“If we're away for a week and it drops to 16 degrees, I increase the temperature to our normal 21 in the app a couple of hours before we get home. You can't do that with water-based heating and other sluggish systems,” she says.

She is satisfied with the range of infrared heating panels in the house, but misses a bit the opportunity to dry the children's wet hats and mittens.

“A type of towel hanger in the hall for such garments would have been perfect,” says Jenny Engman.
