Heating one of Sweden's most historic buildings is no easy task. At Stockholm Palace, guides work every day to welcome visitors in the old stone vaults. The environment is fantastic, but for much of the year it can also be raw and chilly. Heating the entire building would have been neither practical nor energy-efficient. The solution was instead to create comfortable heat exactly where it is needed. The choice fell on an infrared panel from Infracenter.
Pleasant warmth where the guides stand
The panel was installed in the Western Vault, where the guides stand during long work shifts and welcome thousands of visitors each year. Instead of trying to heat the large volume of stone, the heat is directed towards the place where people actually spend time. This provides a significantly more comfortable working environment while using the energy where it is most useful. The discreet ceiling-mounted infrared panel also blends into the historical environment without taking attention away from the unique architecture.
An appreciated result from the first day
Shortly after the installation, an email came from the Royal Court. "We are more than satisfied with the panel that you sent a few weeks ago. It is now installed in the Western Vault and the guides who stand and receive visitors in the otherwise cold room now experience a pleasant warmth next to the panel." Katarina Wiklund, Royal Court That is exactly how Infracenter's infrared panels are intended to be used – not to heat unnecessary surfaces, but to create comfort where people work and stay.
Why infrared heating works so well in historic buildings
Historic buildings often have high ceilings, thick stone walls and large air volumes. Trying to heat the entire building is therefore both costly and inefficient. With infrared heating, people, floors and other surfaces are heated directly. This means that guides and visitors experience a pleasant warmth without the need to heat the entire building. At the same time, the building's architecture or cultural and historical values are not affected because the panels can be installed discreetly and without extensive intervention.
