Create a more comfortable working environment with infrared heating
The temperature in the office affects both comfort, well-being and the work environment. When people sit still for long workdays, they become extra sensitive to cold floors, cold drafts from windows and uneven temperatures between different parts of the premises.
Unlike traditional heating systems that primarily heat the air, infrared heating works by directly heating people, desks, floors, walls and other surfaces. The result is a more even and comfortable temperature throughout the room without drafts, fan noise or large temperature differences between the floor and ceiling.
For modern offices, this means a comfortable working environment where the warmth is experienced where people actually work.
Since 2014, Infracenter has specialized in infrared heating and helped companies, property owners and organizations create better work environments with the help of modern infrared panels. Today, we are the largest specialist in infrared panels in the Nordic region and deliver several thousand panels to offices, hotels, schools, yoga studios, homes and commercial properties every year.
Our experience shows that workplace comfort is about much more than the temperature on the thermostat. When floors, walls and work surfaces maintain an even temperature, the work environment is often perceived as significantly more comfortable while energy consumption can be kept low.
That's why more and more companies are choosing infrared heating
Infrared heating has become a popular option in modern office environments because the heat is experienced as fast, even and comfortable while keeping energy consumption low.
Many companies also appreciate that infrared heating panels can be installed discreetly in suspended ceilings or acoustic ceilings without taking up valuable wall or floor space. This gives a stylish and professional impression while improving the working environment.
The benefits are particularly clear in open office environments where traditional heating systems often create large temperature differences between different parts of the premises.
Benefits of infrared heating in offices
Even and comfortable heat
High comfort during sedentary work
Quiet operation without fan noise
Less drafts and cold drafts
Energy-efficient heating
Discreet installation in suspended ceilings or acoustic ceilings
Individual temperature control
Minimal maintenance
How much infrared heating is needed in an office?
For modern offices with normal ceiling height and good insulation, we typically recommend around 80–100 W/m². The exact effect is influenced by factors such as ceiling height, glass surfaces, ventilation, insulation and desired temperature.
To make sizing simple, we assume 100 W/m² in the table below. This provides a safe and well-functioning solution for most office environments.
Example of power requirements for offices
| Office space | Recommended power (100 W/m²) |
|---|---|
| 5 m² | 500W |
| 10 m² | 1,000W |
| 30 m² | 3,000W |
| 50 m² | 5,000W |
| 100 m² | 10,000W |
The final dimensioning is always influenced by the conditions of the premises. Offices with large glass areas, higher ceiling heights or unusually high comfort requirements may need more power, while well-insulated premises can sometimes do with less.
Spot heating provides high comfort where people work
In an office, people often sit still for long periods of time. This makes the perceived temperature extra important. Cold floors, cold drafts from windows and uneven temperatures affect both comfort and the work environment.
Infrared heating heats people, desks, floors and other surfaces directly. This makes workplaces feel comfortable even when the air temperature is kept at a reasonable level. Many companies therefore appreciate the combination of high comfort, a better working environment and low energy consumption.
How much electricity does infrared heating actually consume?
A common misconception is that installed capacity and actual energy consumption are the same thing. This is not how it normally works.
When we design an office, we often factor in a little extra power to ensure high comfort throughout the space. This ensures that the infrared waves reach workstations, floors, desks and other surfaces where the heat is most beneficial.
However, this does not mean that the plant operates at full capacity all the time.
Once the desired temperature has been reached, the thermostat automatically controls the heat and adjusts the power as needed. In practice, this means that the infrared heat is normally only active for part of the time.
Depending on the building's conditions, it is common for the system to operate approximately:
30% of the time in well-insulated offices
50% of the time in normal office environments
Up to 70% of the time in more demanding conditions
The actual energy consumption is therefore often significantly lower than many people initially think.
More comfortable heat with lower energy requirements
Infrared heating heats people, floors, walls and furniture directly instead of just heating the air. When the surfaces in the room store heat, comfort improves while the need for high air temperatures often decreases.
Many companies therefore find that they can maintain the same or higher comfort at a slightly lower temperature than before. The result is a more pleasant indoor climate with less cold draft, more even temperatures and often lower heating costs.
Smart temperature control for modern workplaces
A big advantage of infrared heating is the ability to control the temperature individually in different rooms and zones. Because infrared heat reacts quickly, the temperature can easily be adjusted to how the premises are used during the day.
Conference rooms, offices and areas that are used less frequently can be kept cooler while workplaces where people stay for longer periods of time receive optimal comfort.
This provides both a better working environment and more efficient energy use.
Integrated heating solution for modern offices
Infracenter's infra panels fit very well in suspended ceilings and acoustic ceilings and can be integrated discreetly into the office environment. The panels are available in several different sizes to suit different types of premises and suspended ceiling systems.
Unlike many simpler infrared panels on the market, our panels are designed for professional installations. Several models are approved for installation in suspended ceilings and acoustic ceilings, making them particularly popular in offices, schools, hotels and other commercial environments where safety, function and design are important factors.
Since the panels are mounted on the ceiling, wall space is freed up while the heat is spread evenly throughout the room. This makes the solution popular in both smaller offices, open office spaces and larger commercial environments where design, function and work environment are important parts of the whole.
