The right temperature is an important part of the experience in a yoga studio. Whether the space is used for traditional yoga, pilates, wellness or hot yoga, the heating system needs to be able to create an even and comfortable temperature throughout the room.
One of the most common questions we get is how much infrared heat is needed in a yoga studio.
There is no exact answer that fits all premises. Ceiling height, insulation, glass surfaces, ventilation and desired temperature always affect the final dimensioning.
Since 2014, Infracenter has been delivering infrared heating to yoga studios in Sweden and several other countries. The experience from many installations has given us a good idea of which solutions work best in practice.
How much power is needed in a yoga studio?
For traditional yoga, we usually recommend around 200W per m² as a starting point.
For hot yoga or premises with higher temperature requirements, we usually calculate with around 250W per m².
| Type of premises | Recommended power |
|---|---|
| Traditional yoga | approx. 200W/m² |
| Pilates | approx. 200W/m² |
| Wellness | approx. 200W/m² |
| Hot Yoga | approx. 250W/m² |
| Premises with high ceilings | approx. 250W/m² |
| Premises with large glass areas | approx. 250W/m² |
The table is a general guideline. Ceiling height, insulation, glass surfaces, ventilation and desired temperature always affect the final dimensioning.
Different parts of the space may also have different heating needs. For example, areas near large windows, entrances or exterior walls may require more heat than other parts of the studio. Therefore, it is important to view each yoga studio as unique and size the facility based on the actual conditions of the space.

The panels are not on all the time
Many people who see the numbers above think that the heaters are working at full power all day long.
That's not how it works.
Once the desired temperature is reached, the thermostat automatically regulates the heat. In many yoga studios, the heaters are therefore active approximately 30–50% of the time, depending on the season, insulation and desired temperature.
This means that actual energy consumption is often significantly lower than many people initially think.
That's why a little more power is often needed in a yoga studio.
A yoga studio is used differently than an office or living room.
Participants sit, lie and exercise directly on the floor for large parts of the sessions. To create a comfortable temperature where people actually are, the infrared waves need to reach all the way down to the floor.
That's one of the reasons why yoga studios are often sized slightly higher than many other types of premises.
The goal is not to make the room unnecessarily hot. The goal is to create an even and comfortable temperature throughout the room.
It is easy to add more panels later
One of the great advantages of infrared heating is that the system is very flexible.
If, after a period of use, it turns out that some part of the premises needs more heat, it is usually easy to supplement with one or more additional panels.
Many studio owners appreciate this security. The heating system can be adapted over time if the business grows, the premises are rebuilt or if you want to maintain higher temperatures than before.
It is much easier to supplement with more infrared panels or
What heaters are most often used in yoga studios?
| Product | Common use |
|---|---|
| Yoga, Pilates, wellness and traditional yoga studios | |
| Dark Heater 1800W | Yoga, hot yoga, pilates and wellness |
| Dark Heater 3200W | Yoga, hot yoga, larger venues and higher temperatures |
Dark Heater 1800W and Dark Heater 3200W are currently used in yoga studios in Sweden and several other countries. Thanks to the included remote control, the heat can be easily adjusted to the needs of the venue and the desired temperature.
At lower power, the Dark Heater provides soft and comfortable heat, while also having the capacity to deliver significantly higher temperatures when the premises or business requires it.
That flexibility is one of the reasons why so many yoga studios choose the Dark Heater from Infracenter.
Where should infrared heat be placed in a yoga studio?
The placement of the heaters is at least as important as the total output.
In a yoga studio, you want the heat to reach the participants and the floor surfaces where the training actually takes place. Therefore, the heaters should be placed so that the infrared waves can spread freely over the training surfaces.
Avoid directing the heat directly at large areas of glass.Glass absorbs infrared heat poorly and some of the energy risks leaving the premises instead of heating people, floors and other surfaces.
A well-placed heater often makes a bigger difference than just increasing the output.
What happens if you install too little power?
The most common reason why a yoga studio does not achieve the desired temperature is that the installed power is too low.
Many premises look the same on the drawing but can have completely different conditions in reality. High ceilings, large glass areas, older buildings or higher temperature requirements can significantly increase the power requirement.
Therefore, Infracenter usually recommends around 200W/m² for traditional yoga and around 250W/m² for hot yoga as a starting point.
If, after a period of use, it turns out that the premises need more heat, it is usually easy to supplement with additional panels or
This is one of the great advantages of infrared heating. The system can be expanded as the business develops without the need to replace the entire heating system.
